Welcome to my website. This post contains a quick guide to how to follow my webblog.
This page contains all of the posts i have written on influences. You can choose which section of posts to watch through the categories i have put them under such as Power, Memory or Spectacle. To do this just click on one of the categories in the ‘Categories’ list to the right. If you are just wanting to see my 311mc work/final project then the only category you will need for my posts is ‘final project’
On the right i also have my blogroll. This is a list of links to other peoples webblogs as well as my you tube account and my photobucket account.
Beneath this is a section called Delicious. This directs you to my delicious account where you will be able to see all of the websites i have used to research into my three artifacts.
Next is my Flickr photos. I have three photos showing but you could click on more photos to view all of my photos.
Finally on the right hand side i have a RRS feed to 310mc blog which is a blog from my tutors sending me reminders and any other important information.
To view my pages for each of my ideas click on the Power, Memory or Spectacle links above.
When seeing the first obstruction i was baffled as to why anyone would create pointless obstructions when all it manages to do is make things harder for oneself. However, after watching through all five of the Obstructions i became aware of the fact that giving obstructions is not to make things harder for oneself but to create a new way of thinking about how to do things. It reminded me of Guy Debord and his group the Situationists International as they also were about creating a new way of thinking. Through watching the five obstructions by Lars Von Trier it becomes easier to understand how taking someone out of their comfort zone can create new ways of thinking rather than just hindering the creativity.
For my religion story to be realistic i needed to find a Muslim name for my main character. I knew he would be an ant and therefore his name needed to begin with the letter A. After looking through the pages of names i reduced it to the names i have heard of before. I wanted the name to be something that children may have heard of and therefore would be able to relate to. The names i was considering include:
Aamir – means Civilised
Aasif – means An able minister
Adam – is a prophets name
Abdul – A slave or servant
Adeeb – Aliterary person
Ahmad – most highly adored
Akbar – Great
I decided that the name i would use for my story would be Ahmad because it is the most well know out of them all. Also i felt it would be a good idea to have a name with a positive meaning which immediately ruled out Abdul. Ahmad was my final choice.
In order to write my religion story i needed to know a little about Muslims and their Mosques. I used the website above to learn the necessary components for my story. I learnt from this sight that Muslim children do not start going to Mosque until they are 5 years old. This meant that my character Ahmad had to be 5 years old and would have a little understanding of religion. From this i new roughly how my story would be able to develop. I also learnt that Muslims do not only carry out religious sctivities in their Mosque but they have social events there too.
This is the beginning of radio. The above article explains how Guglielmo Marconi transmitted the first radio waves in 1901 from the Isle of Wight to Cornwall which consequently still affects us today. It also explains how by 1922 BBC existed and the mass population were using the radio as their look in on the world.
By knowing when radio started i will be able to get a good idea of how long it has taken radio to progress to the stage that it is at today. It will also give us a clearer picture as to how radio works.
This article explains how the bbc are having problems with kids radio due to all the content being split over several stations at several times. However, this is not the reason for me highlighting this article.
It states and i quote ‘There is also support for a standalone service among parents, the trust said “There is some evidence of demand for children’s radio. 37% of parents of children aged six or under said that their chidren would be interested in listening to CBeebies radio in the future.’”
This proves that there is a gap in the market for our show with our target audience wanting something like what we are offering.
Gladitors is another show where people compete against each other fo a title. It was around a long time before x-factor or any of the other most recent shows but contains similar elements. It is as i said a competition to be the best but it does not provide the contestants with a full career at the end of it. This is the different between gladiators and the newer shows. It is also shows the development and base that i can use o create my own show.
Gladiators is a fun and exciting competition that has a strong motion of power.
Strictly come dancing is another show where peope compete for the title of champion. It is as it sounds a dancing competition where people are paired up with a professional to develop their dancing skills and aim to be the best on the show.
Like all of the other television competitions that i have written about under power in my blog this programe has influenced me into thinking about howi can take something we already know but dvelop it and take it further into a whole new level.
Big brother is a show for different people with very different personalties to get together and battle to be the publics favourite character. The show works on a base of greed for power and the power to influence others as well as to create entertainment.
I find this show like all other tv competitions a very effective and powerful way of using everyday situations and putting them into a new cover making them seem more interesting and creating a new way of life for one or more individuals at the end of it. It is a competition to climb the power structure. People go from normal unknown people to ‘celebrities’ who can influence many peoples lives.
Im a celebrity get me out of here is a good way of showing how far people will go just to get a crown and food. People have put themselves in a horrible and powerless situation in order to get themselves known more. The show to me is a hilarious publicity stunt.
In this show the only people who have any power are the viewers and the creators of the show. This is what makes it more interesting. I dont think it would have as big an audience if we were not able to choose who does the tasks or who goes out. Not only is it a struggle to win the crown for the contestants but they always create their very own smaller power struggles within the camp. This is part of what makes it interesting tv.
X-factor is a good example of how power works. The constenstants in the show are all aiming to be the best and get the singing career they want. Although they may not be the best singers in the world they are all in a powerful position knowing that one of them will be getting a contract just because of the publics choices. This also puts the public into a powerful position.
This show influences me because it makes me wonder if it can be done with other jobs that are more important. It helps me to see how there is room for development in shows like this.
Below is the rota for staffing the rooms for the Degree Show. If a room is not staffed, then it will be closed so you must make sure that you are there on time for your allocated time and, if you cannot make that time, that you swap with someone who can. Copies of the [...]
